Finland’s flag carrier, Finnair, opened a new lounge on July 9th at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL). The space is accessible to passengers traveling on the Schengen side of the airport and offers a dedicated area for oneworld® Emerald members.

The new lounge can accommodate 440 passengers (around 50% larger than the previous lounge) and is located near Gate 21. It’s open daily from 5:00 AM until 12:00 AM and provides customers flying on shorthaul flights within Europe a space to relax and work before their departures. There are different spaces for relaxing and working including several soundproof booths.

The lounge’s design captures the essence of the Nordics with peaceful, natural, and inviting decor. Think wooden textures, soft forms, and warm colors that reflect the Finnish landscape’s serenity and you’ll be able to picture the space, which has a similar design to the other lounge that Finnair opened in Helsinki in 2019. Furniture comes from Nordic design brands, such as Artek, Nikari, and Gubi. The new lounge also offers impressive views of the runway and the airport gates.

Meri Järvinen, Head of Airport Customer Experience at Finnair, said:

In a world that grows busier by the day, we understand the universal need for comfort. The new Finnair Lounge offers a safe haven from all the airport noise and hassle, letting you both engage in work and unwind.”

The lounge is split into two sections: Business Lounge and Platinum Corner. The first will accommodate Business Class and oneworld® Sapphire passengers and the second (known as the Platinum Corner) is for Finnair’s top-tier members (Finnair Plus Platinum and Platinum Lumo) and oneworld® Emerald members. Upgraded access to the Platinum Corner may also be purchased for €30 euros or 4,800 Avios points.

This lounge is named for Europe’s Schengen Area. The Schengen Area includes most European Union (EU) countries (except Cyprus and Ireland) as well as Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. There are no passport controls when traveling between these countries.

Anthony’s Take: The new lounge looks great. I like that Finnair created a dedicated section for top-tier elites and oneworld® Emerald members. It doesn’t have a sauna like Finnair’s Platinum Wing in Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL), but it will provide great comfort for passengers traveling from the airport.
