oneworld®, the airline alliance with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, and others as members, announced today that Fiji Airways is officially the 15th member with all benefits for passengers taking effect tomorrow (April 1st).
The announcement that Fiji Airways was joining as a full member airline was initially made during IATA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit (WATS) in Dubai back in June 2024. Fiji Airways had been a oneworld® connect airline for the past five years. Over this period, the airline developed cooperative links with all oneworld® member airlines, which makes its full integration tomorrow much easier.
After fully joining oneworld®, Fiji Airways will provide its eligible passengers with access to more than 700 airport lounges globally, priority check-in, priority boarding, and the ability to earn and redeem miles across all oneworld® member airlines. Eligible passengers who are members of other oneworld® airline frequent flyer programs will have access to Fiji Airways’ lounges and also see benefits, earning, and redemption options with the South Pacific carrier.
Fiji Airways also announced today that it is officially adopting American AAdvantage® as its loyalty program tomorrow. The official switch will offer American flyers seamless integration and benefits as a result. This is exciting news for both Fiji Airways (the newest oneworld® member) and American flyers.
Nat Pieper, CEO of oneworld®, said:
The introduction of Fiji Airways marks an important strategic step for our alliance as we connect even more people, places and experiences than ever before. Fiji Airways customers will benefit from oneworld®’s global reach of more than 900 destinations, priority services and premium lounge access, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to the oneworld® family.”
Andre Viljoen, Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, added:
Becoming a full member of the oneworld® alliance is a proud and momentous milestone for Fiji Airways. This achievement reflects our commitment to providing world-class service and expanding our global reach, while showcasing the warmth and hospitality of Fiji to the world. As a full member, we are excited to offer our customers even greater benefits and seamless connectivity across the extensive oneworld® network. We look forward to welcoming more oneworld® customers onboard to experience the beauty of Fiji and the exceptional service of Fiji Airways.”
Anthony’s Take: oneworld® is continuing to grow. It’s the only of the three alliances with additions in recent months (other than the shift of SAS to SkyTeam from Star Alliance and ITA Airways pending move from SkyTeam to Star Alliance in 2026).
