Sicily is one of my favorite parts of Italy and starting next summer, Delta Air Lines will make it easy to get there with nonstop flights to Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Delta is the first US airline to fly there. This is just one route in Delta’s largest transatlantic schedule ever.
The new schedule is heavy on routes to Italy with new flights to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP), and Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO). Delta will also be launching flights to/from Brussels Airport (BRU) and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). Delta executives have been saying that leisure travel is still where they’re seeing bookings and it looks like this will continue into summer 2025. These six cities are already served by Delta, but the routes are new. These will be part of the 700 weekly flights that Delta will offer to 33 European cities next year.
New Routes
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to/from Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) (daily; starts in May 2025)
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Brussels, Belgium (BRU) (3x weekly; starts in May 2025)
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP) (3x weekly; starts in May 2025)
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to/from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) (3x weekly; starts in May 2025)
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to/from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) (4x weekly; starts in May 2025)
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to/from Dublin Airport (DUB) (4x weekly; starts in May 2025)
- Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MPS) to/from Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) (4x weekly; starts in May 2025)
Increased Frequencies
In addition to adding some new lines to the route map, Delta is also increasing service on the following flight options next summer:
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) increases from 7x to 11x weekly.
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) increases from 7x to 10x weekly.
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) increases from 14x to 17x weekly.
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Zurich Airport (ZRH) increases to daily flights.
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to/from Munich International Airport (MUC) increases to daily flights.
An increased number of transatlantic flights will be operated by Delta’s Airbus A330-900 and A350-900 aircraft, which feature Delta One® suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin options.
Joe Esposito, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning, said:
With over 700 weekly flights to 33 European destinations and beyond, we’re expanding access to key cities like Barcelona and Dublin with new routes, while introducing our first-ever nonstop service to Catania, Sicily. We’ve also recently opened a stunning Delta One Lounge at JFK, with more to come at LAX, BOS, and SEA. Alongside the rollout of free international Wi-Fi and increased premium seating across our fleet, we’re ensuring our customers enjoy the best in connectivity and comfort from the moment they arrive at the airport to when they touch down.”
Anthony’s Take: I’m so excited that Delta is flying to Sicily. There are now even more great options to get to Europe next summer and I know I’ll be planning our annual trip to Italy soon.

I hope the route works out for them. Conversely if they can’t make JFK-MUC work then I get more dubious. Maybe they’re just trying anything that might just succeed and see what does.
Anthony,
As I am living in Dublin, this new route from DUB to DTW is a route that interests me. However, there are no details on the Delta website to book, nor is there any timings, aircraft type, days of operation.
I contacted Delta via their social media and the folk there have no idea on this route.
Seems appalling from Deltas point of view, that they have no precise details on this route
Is it me, or has anyone else had an issue trying to put meat on the bones of this scattery announcement
I agree that details are scant. Routes start in May without specific dates released as of yet.
