Operations at Dublin Airport (DUB) have returned to normal after a major security scare on Saturday forced the evacuation of Terminal 2. This left thousands of passengers stranded and flights temporarily halted as law enforcement investigated. The incident unfolded on Saturday morning, when airport staff and Ireland’s national police service, An Garda Síochána, raised concerns about a suspicious item discovered in a passenger’s luggage. As a precautionary measure, authorities ordered an immediate evacuation of Terminal 2 and directed passengers to designated assembly points outside the building.

Officials requested support from the Irish Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit. The bomb disposal squad arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough examination of the suspicious item. Officials confirmed that no explosive threat was present and declared the item safe. By early afternoon, the security alert was cleared and passengers were allowed to re-enter the terminal.

The evacuation temporarily halted flight operations. Departures and arrivals suspended until approximately 2:00 PM (local time). Dozens of flights experienced delays and a small number were canceled. This added to existing travel disruptions caused by a separate cyberattack earlier in the week that affected check-in and boarding systems at several European airports, including Dublin Airport (DUB).

Witnesses described a swift and orderly evacuation, but many travelers still expressed frustration over missed connections and disrupted itineraries. Crowds gathered at assembly points outside the terminal and some passengers reported confusion and anxiety as the nature of the threat was not immediately disclosed.

Anthony’s Take: Thankfully, this was nothing and operations have resumed. Some travelers will now have a long day ahead of them.
