Dr. Mehmet Oz is a physician, TV personality, and failed politician. He was traveling from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) on JetBlue flight B6 939 yesterday. A passenger had a medical emergency and Oz assisted in stabilizing him until the flight reached its destination.
The Airbus A320 was around an hour into its route when a passenger was going in and out of consciousness. Oz answered flight attendants’ calls for medical assistance. TMZ first reported about this incident and spoke to Dr. Oz. He said:
[A] middle-aged healthy man lost consciousness and we did usual triage with physical exam and vital signs. After oxygen, OJ and time, he recovered and needs to have a detailed evaluation with his local physician.”
The man was given juice to help with his low blood sugar and oxygen. He was determined okay to make it to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and was able to make it to his final destination and further medical attention there.
This is a long route to fly on an Airbus A320 (around six hours). JetBlue does not have Mint (Business Class) on these planes, so Dr. Oz was flying in Economy (which is a bit surprising).
It’s interesting to note that while his politics are a bit suspect that he has saved another life at an airport. Three years ago, a man flatlined at baggage claim in Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Dr. Oz did CPR and used a defibrillator to resuscitate him.
Anthony’s Take: Hopefully, Dr. Oz was rewarded with lots of crudité when he arrived at the wedding he was headed to in Mexico. It’s good to hear that the passenger was stable and that the flight did not divert.
