There is lots to complain about travel these days. Planes and lounges are overcrowded. People are frustrated with the volume of travelers, delays, and other travel woes. But, occasionally there is some good news and this story made me smile.
A couple named Lawyrn and Joe were flying Delta Air Lines from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) in San Juan for their honeymoon in February with the plan to hop on a cruise the day after to some international destinations. Panic set in when the bride realized that she left her passport at home. Luckily, some flight attendants went above and beyond and reconnected her with her mandatory travel document.
A flight attendant in Detroit (named Dusty D.) picked up the passport from the bride’s family and flew with it to Atlanta. Another flight attendant was scheduled to fly to San Juan that day and they took it to the honeymooners so that they could still make their cruise. That is amazing customer service and I feel like something I have experienced with many of the Delta staff that I have encountered. I’m consistently met with smiles and pleasant greetings. Staff tries to find solutions. It’s a nice change of pace from the years of surly, poor service I received while being a Global Services member with United Airlines.
The bride commented on a recent Facebook post from Delta. It reads:
We were so touched and grateful — a renewed faith in humanity was the best wedding gift. We owe our post-wedding bliss to Dusty and the Delta family!”
In case anyone was wondering, these were not Delta Diamond Medallion or Delta 360° members. They are both Silver Medallions and these Delta employees did this because they genuinely cared.
Anthony’s Take: This is such a nice story and I’m glad the couple got to enjoy their honeymoon. I’ll continue to fly Delta and hope that the customer service continues to exceed my expectations.
