A Delta Air Lines flight attendant, identified as 36-year-old Joshua Smith, reportedly attacked and stabbed a fellow flight attendant upon returning to their hotel on Poydras Street in New Orleans. Smith’s colleague and a security guard were injured during the altercation.
Around 3:00 AM yesterday, the crew returned to the hotel where they were staying during a layover. Smith was reportedly acting strangely. A female flight attendant escorted Smith to his room and an argument began. He then allegedly stabbed her three times (twice in the arm and once in the neck) with a knife. She fled to another floor of the hotel for help. Smith followed her and cut the thumb of a security guard who intervened.
The police were called to the hotel where they found Smith and the victims. WDSU 6 reports that he has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery, simple battery and aggravated assault.

The story above was shared by an individual that claims to have been a guest. They share that the fire alarm was going off and that Smith was spraying a fire extinguisher at hotel security. They are also apparently flight crew and said that they shared a van with someone who found the victim after the stabbing.

There is a quite a lively discussion on Reddit found above. It has not yet been determined what caused the incident to unfold. Delta released this internal statement to employees about the situation:
We are working with local authorities on an incident that took place at our crew hotel in MSY on Sunday evening between two flight attendants. The situation is isolated and there are no safety concerns for crew members who are staying at the hotel. Delta has zero tolerance for violence against or among our people and will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement officials. Out of respect to ongoing investigations, Delta cannot comment or confirm additional details.”
Anthony’s Take: I hope that the injured flight attendant makes a full recovery and that Smith (if found guilty) gets a punishment that fits this sad situation.
