Delta Air Lines was planning to end service between Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) in New York on February 14th. The upstate airport serves the Southern Tier of New York and this was the only scheduled, commercial service. It looks like residents are getting a valentine as Delta is axing its plans to cut the route.
New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul released a statement thanking Delta for finding an available aircraft to resume daily service to Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) in the spring. Delta Air Lines has SkyWest (doing business as Delta Connection) fly the route with Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft. These offer 12 Delta First, 20 Delta Comfort, and 44 Delta Main seats. This route has been flying for the past 15 years. Delta attempted to add flights to/from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in 2023, but these did not even last one year. United Airlines ended its flights to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in 2016 and American Airlines pulled flights to/from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) in 2017.
Anthony’s Take: This is good news for locals and will keep the airport on Delta’s route map. It will be interesting to see if Delta adds any other routes or if any other carriers return to or make a play to enter this airport.
