Two Hamas leaders were assassinated early this morning in Iran and Lebanon. This has prompted retaliation threats from Iran and caused several airlines to once again suspend service to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV).
"UA service to TLV is canceled until further notice and the situation is further evaluated. UA85 is en route TLV to EWR currently. UA91 will depart TLV tonight for EWR with all remaining crew still in TLV."

United Airlines operates 14 flights per week from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV). The Chicago-based carrier has cancelled flights for the next few days. Delta Airlines flies daily from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). It has also announced cancellations for the next 48 hours as it analyzes the situation.
Both United Airlines and Delta Air Lines resumed flights to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) in June. The carriers had halted service when it was deemed unsafe for crews. With an “extensive security risk assessment” completed, both carriers again flew nonstop service between the United States and Israel.
The US State Department has issued a travel advisory advising Americans in Israel to avoid going within 2.5 miles of the Lebanese and Syrian borders and those planning to travel there to reconsider due to the “unpredictable” security situation. It has further warned of mortar and rocket fire that might take place without warning.
Anthony’s Take: It will be interesting to see how long this suspension lasts. El Al will continue to fly between the US and Israel and when other carriers resume will depend on what happens with the current situation.
