Back in January, Delta’s CEO, Ed Bastian, announced a new partnership with Uber. This was set to launch in the spring and we now know it’s this week. At the time, Delta allowed members to join the waitlist and link their Uber and Delta SkyMiles® accounts. Those members that did so before April 1st can start earning SkyMiles® today while those who did not meet that deadline will be able to rack up miles beginning on Thursday, April 24th.

Delta Lyft

Delta and Lyft had a partnership since 2018. That ended this month. Uber will begin offering Delta flyers bonus SkyMiles® on rides and Uber Eats orders.

Uber Delta

Uber passengers will be able to link their Delta SkyMiles® accounts to earn one mile per $1 spent on $40+ restaurant and grocery orders placed with Uber Eats and on UberX rides to and from US airports. Uber Comfort, SUV, and Uber Black will earn two miles per $1 spent. Passengers who reserve their airport rides in advance will earn three miles per $1 spent. Customers who use their Delta SkyMiles American Express Card on the qualifying Uber categories can earn an additional one mile per $1 spent.

Prashant Sharma, VP of Loyalty at Delta, said:

SkyMiles Membership is about giving Delta’s loyal customers more ways to earn even more miles, fly with more ease, and experience more of what really matters to them. Our new partnership with Uber not only expands the value of loyalty and makes it easier than ever for our Members to get rewarded – it also opens the door for new audiences to find reasons to love SkyMiles, no matter how often they fly.”

Camiel Irving, VP of Operations and GM Mobility, US&C at Uber, added:

As 15% of all Uber trips either begin or end at an airport, we know that Uber is an integral part of the travel experience for millions of people. Partnering with Delta offers an even more connected experience for those travelers, turning their everyday moments into miles that will take them even further.”

How to Link Accounts and Start Earning

Linking accounts is easy and can be done in a few steps.

  • Open your Uber or Uber Eats app and tap “Account”
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap “Partner Rewards.” Delta SkyMiles® should be as option, click there and you’ll be directed to a landing page to learn more
  • Tap “Link to start earning miles” and you’ll be prompted to log in to your Delta SkyMiles® account
  • Once you’re logged in, your accounts are connected and you can start earning

The only part of this that I am disappointed with is that I cannot earn both Marriott Bonvoy® points and Delta SkyMiles®. I was hoping for the double dip, but that is not possible. The full terms and conditions can be found here.

Anthony’s Take: I have been an avid Uber rider (and Uber Eats customer) for many, many years. I’m excited and hope that I’ll soon be able to earn Marriott Bonvoy® points or Delta SkyMiles®. I just need to choose which one.
