Delta Air Lines announced that it will begin serving burgers from Shake Shack out of three additional airports in domestic First Class beginning on today, March 4th. The airline has been offering pre-orders out of Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) since December and will now expand to include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
They might not be particularly luxe, but a cheeseburger is one of my favorite choices when it’s offered in First Class. In the past, I have reviewed the burger that United was serving along with French fries as well as what Delta was offering in a head-to-head battle (review here). I have yet to try one, but I’m excited to have a Shake Shack burger at 30,000 feet and am a big fan of Danny Meyer’s burger chain (going back to when it opened in 2004). My office was near Madison Square Park and I’d pop over there frequently. I’ve found Shake Shack locations all over, including a surprise one in Istanbul. Tampa International Airport (TPA) just got its own nearby location.
Passengers traveling from the airports above in First Class on routes over 900 miles will be able to preselect a Shake Shack Cheeseburger as their meal selection. You can customize your burger to create the signature ShackBurger, with toppings like tomato, lettuce and Shake Shack’s famous ShackSauce, all served on the side. The meal also features chips, a Caesar salad, and a dark chocolate brownie reminiscent of Shack Attack flavors from some of the brand’s dessert offerings.
Stephanie Laster, Managing Director of Onboard Service at Delta, said:
Customers are raving about the Shake Shack experience onboard our flights after serving more than 10,000 burgers out of Boston since launching in December. This is part of our work to partner with brands our customers already know and love while continuing to raise the bar for the in-flight experience – whether that’s making your favorite cheeseburger available at 35,000 feet, or ensuring you have a variety of fresh meals to choose from that fuel you on your adventure.”
Michael Kark, President of Global Licensing at Shake Shack, added:
Our partnership with Delta has been a truly fantastic way to bring Shake Shack to even more guests in a setting where hospitality truly matters – while traveling. The response has been incredible, and we’re thrilled to expand this partnership, giving even more Delta travelers the chance to enjoy Shake Shack along their journey.”
Anthony’s Take: I can’t wait to have a Shake Shack burger on board a Delta Flight. I’ll report back with a taste test when I get to sample one of my favorite comfort foods.
