Delta Air Lines announced today that it will begin flying from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK) and seasonally to Accra’s Kotoka International Airport (ACC). The new flights start in the fall and Delta will be the second US carrier to fly to Marrakesh (United began flying there this past October).

Marrakesh

Flights between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK) will run 3x weekly using Boeing 767-400ER aircraft with 34 Delta One®, 20 Premium Select, 28 Comfort+, and 156 Main Cabin seats. Flights begin on October 25th. United’s flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) will return this winter and run 3x weekly as well. American Airlines is the only one of the three major US carriers that will not offer service to Morocco. In 2020, it had announced flights between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport (CMN). These never came to be due to the pandemic and than an aircraft shortage after American retired many planes.

In addition to Marrakesh, Delta is adding 3x weekly service between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Accra’s Kotoka International Airport (ACC). This route will be served with the same aircraft type (Airbus A330-900neo) that Delta uses for its flights to Accra from John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). These provide 29 Delta One®, 28 Premium Select, 56 Comfort+, and 168 Main Cabin seats.

With the addition of Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK), Delta Air Lines will serve six destinations in Africa including:

  • Accra’s Kotoka International Airport (ACC)
  • Cape Town International Airport (CPT) (Delta is increasing service here from 3x to 5x weekly and decreasing its Johannesburg flights)
  • Dakar’s Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS)
  • Johannesburg’s O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB)
  • Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS)

Anthony’s Take: I have friends that recently went to Morocco and loved it. It is definitely on my list for the future. Delta and United have made it easier than ever to fly nonstop.
