Corendon Dutch Airlines operates charters and flights for holiday packages across Europe. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the airline collaborated with a renowned tattoo artist to introduce an aircraft with a tattoo design that covers nearly 2,153 square feet of its fuselage.
Henk Schiffmacher is the tattoo artist. He is known for inking celebrities like Lady Gaga and Kurt Cobain. The aircraft is named “Sweet Louise” after Schiffmacher’s wife and the design was inspired by classic nautical symbols. The idea was born during a conversation with Corendon’s CEO Gunay Uslu. Schiffmacher dreamed of tattooing an entire aircraft and Uslu made it a possibility. While a tattoo gun was not used for the aircraft, applying the design was a complex process. It had to be carefully scaled to fit the plane’s contours without losing any of its artistic integrity.
Gunay Uslu, Corendon’s CEO, shared:
To celebrate Corendon’s 25th anniversary, we wanted to do something bold and unforgettable, something that reflects who we are. This collaboration with Henk Schiffmacher is more than just eye-catching; it symbolizes Corendon’s adventurous spirit and our willingness to go off the beaten track. The tattooed aircraft is a tribute to our roots and our journey, and it shows that travel, like art, can tell powerful stories and bring people together in unexpected ways. We worked closely with aviation and art experts to ensure the design maintained its integrity. It was a meticulous process, but seeing the final result has been incredibly rewarding.”
Anthony’s Take: I’m a sucker for a fun livery. This one from Corendon is so cool. I love the classic tattoo aesthetic.
