American Airlines is celebrating Frequent Flyer Day on May 1st with a contest that will award the first baby born 100,000 AAdvantage® miles. May 1st marks the 44th year that American customers have been able to earn and redeem miles in the world’s first frequent flyer program (launched by a mainline carrier).

American Born to Fly

To enter, parents with a baby born on May 1st can post photos on X with the exact time of birth (with time zone), and tag @AmericanAir in the post with the hashtags #AAdvantage, #FrequentFlyerDay, and #promotion to be entered in the promotion. (No purchase is necessary. See the terms and conditions for the promotion.) Upon verification, the winning baby will receive 100,000 AAdvantage® miles, which will be added in their new AAdvantage® account.

Scott Long, American’s SVP of AAdvantage®, said:

Before even taking their first step, the first baby born on Frequent Flyer Day is ready to travel the world with the gift of 100,000 AAdvantage® miles. We are excited to expand our AAdvantage® family with the addition of this little one into our program as we celebrate the millions of members making a lifetime of family memories with American across the world.”

American Airlines launched the AAdvantage® frequent flyer program in May 1981. It was the world’s second such program with Texas International Airlines being first in 1979. The last official stat released by American showed that there were 115 million members in 2021. That number has grown since then, but the airline has not released the current total in some time.

Anthony’s Take: This is not a contest you can exactly plan for and I congratulate the winning parents who have a baby earliest on May 1st.

Will a baby born in Australia at 12:05 AM be considered born before a baby born at 12:01 AM in New York?
