CLEAR® Plus raised the its annual fee from $189 to $199 a year today without any notice. The last time that CLEAR raised prices was May 2022, but I’m not sure why prices have increased because the experience certainly has not improved.

TSA PreCheck® has been a Godsend since it was introduced years ago. It has saved me many, many hours of time that I would have spent waiting to go through security. This coupled with CLEAR® Plus had proven to be a further timesaver. This has changed over the past year and I have found that it’s often quicker to skip the CLEAR line and go through TSA PreCheck® as so many people have gotten access. My access is not paid. I get it complimentary for holding Delta Diamond Medallion status. That being said, if I had to pay for CLEAR® Plus I’m not sure I would spend the cash.

While the price for individual members is jumping $10, families will see an even bigger increase. CLEAR offers a Family Plan where the base member would pay the standard rate ($189 and now $199) and then each family member could be added for $89. This also increased today by a whopping $30 per person. Children under the age of 18 can still go through the CLEAR® Plus lane with their member parents for free.

Those who have frequent flyer accounts with Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, or United Airlines can save $10 off the cost of membership (they will essentially pay the former rate of $189). Travelers with co-branded credit cards from Delta, Hawaiian, or United will pay $149 per year. Finally, those with Delta Diamond Medallion, Hawaiian Pualani Platinum, or United Premier 1K® status will receive a free membership.

Anthony’s Take: $10 is not a huge amount of money, but an increase on a service that has not been proving worthwhile at its past price and with no notice of the change is not a good look.
