China Eastern Airlines announced today that it’s planning to move to the upcoming Terminal One at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) when it opens in 2026. With its operations being housed there, the SkyTeam member airline will join Air France, KLM, Korean Air, SAS, and China Airlines, in addition to many others who have committed to occupying the new facility.
When it’s completed in 2030, Terminal One will be the largest terminal at JFK. The terminal is being built on sites now occupied by the current Terminal One, the recently closed Terminal Two, and the former Terminal Three. When completed, it will include expansive departures and arrivals halls as well as 23 gates in total. This a huge part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of the airport, which includes two new terminals along with the modernization and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a new roadway network. It will also feature a selection of retail that is being compared to Fifth Avenue and New York City’s iconic markets. China Eastern Airlines flies to/from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) 2x weekly using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. These offer six First Class, 52 Business Class, and 258 Economy Class seats.
Jennifer Aument, Chief Executive Officer of The New Terminal One, said:
We are honored to serve as China Eastern Airlines’ long-term strategic partner as they continue to grow in New York City. China Eastern’s commitment to exceptional service aligns with our vision to transform the international travel experience at JFK. We’re excited to work together to create a premier gateway between New York City and Shanghai.”
Anthony’s Take: The new Terminal One looks gorgeous and will serve as a great welcome to the United States for many travelers. I can’t wait to check it out and be free of the horrible traffic at JFK.
