China Airlines announced yesterday that it’s planning to move to the upcoming Terminal One at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) when it opens in 2026. With its operations being housed there, the SkyTeam member airline will join Air France, KLM, SAS, and Korean Air in addition to many others who have committed to occupying the new facility.
When it’s completed in 2030, Terminal One will be the largest terminal at JFK. The terminal is being built on sites now occupied by the current Terminal One, the recently closed Terminal Two, and the former Terminal Three. When completed, it will include expansive departures and arrivals halls as well as 23 gates in total. This a huge part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of the airport, which includes two new terminals along with the modernization and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a new roadway network. It will also feature a selection of retail that is being compared to Fifth Avenue and New York City’s iconic markets. China Airlines flies 4x weekly to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Kevin Chen, President of China Airlines, said:
With such a promising future of The New Terminal One at JFK, China Airlines also hopes for an efficient construction of the facilities. We look forward to utilizing the latest technology to promote China Airlines and share the excitement of Taiwan with our customers.”
China Airlines operates nonstop flights to six North American destinations, including:
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Ontario International Airport (ONT)
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
China Airlines is looking to add passenger flights to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) according to remarks made by its president at an event in New York this week. The airline currently serves Boston and Phoenix, but only for cargo.
Anthony’s Take: The new Terminal One looks gorgeous and will serve as a great welcome to the United States for many travelers. I can’t wait to check it out and be free of the horrible traffic at JFK.
