Five flights received bomb threats over social media platform, X. Air India flight AI127 from Dehli’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) was forced to divert to the remote Iqaluit Airport (YFB) in Canada.

Air India Flight Status

While the Air India Boeing 777-300ER was forced to land as quickly as possible (which took some time given the routing over Russia, Arctic Norway, and Greenland. The normally 15-hour flight will take substantially longer today as the plane landed around 11 hours into the trip and then passengers had to deplane, get screened, and wait while the aircraft was searched.

Four other flights also received bomb threats. These include:

  • Air India Express flight IX765 between Jaipur International Airport (JAI) and Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR)
  • SpiceJet flight SG116 between Darbhanga Airport (DBR) and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM)
  • Akasa Air flight QP1373 between Bagdogra Airport (IXB) and Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR)
  • Indigo flight 6E98 between King Fahd International Airport (DMM) and Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (LKO)

This latest bomb hoax comes a day after another bomb threat was called in on an Air India flight. Flight AI119 from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) to New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) was forced to make an emergency landing in Dehli’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) after this threat.

Air India issued the following statement:

Flight AI127 operating from Delhi to Chicago on October 15, 2024, was the subject of a security threat posted online and, as a precautionary measure, has landed at Iqaluit Airport in Canada. The aircraft and passengers are being re-screened as per the laid down security protocol. Air India has activated agencies at the airport to assist the passengers until such time that their journey can resume.

Air India notes that it, and other local airlines, have been subject to a number of threats in recent days. Though all have subsequently been found to be hoaxes, as a responsible airline operator all threats are taken seriously. The inconvenience to customers is sincerely regretted.

Air India is extending all cooperation to authorities in identifying the perpetrators of such threats to ensure that they are held accountable for their disruption and inconvenience caused to passengers, and will consider legal action against those responsible to recover damages incurred by the airline.”

Anthony’s Take: Thankfully, this is a hoax and the other threats were also not proven credible. These incidents must be taken seriously and each one needs to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of all on board.

All this while India is furious at Canada for Canada being publicly upset about India having assassinated an Indian-Canadian in Canada and India having plotted to kill other Indian-Canadians and some Indian-Americans whom the Indian government in India hates with a passion.
