I have lived in Chicago since 2014. Lori Lightfoot was the mayor from 2019 to 2023. I was not a fan of hers during her term and think that she went overboard with Covid restrictions while not doing a good job with the city’s budget. She also has apparently not made a payment in 17 months for “an unpaid MileagePlus United credit card balance of $11,078.01.” Now, JPMorganChase is suing to try to recoup this amount.

A complaint filed in the Cook County Circuit Court has all the details. Lightfoot has been a Chase cardholder since 2005, but stopped making payments in August 2024. The suit says that Lightfoot did not object to the last statement issued before the debt was declared a charge-off in March 2025. It’s unclear why she has not paid the credit card debt and Lightfoot has declined to comment to the press.

Anthony’s Take: This is scheduled to go to court in December. I just hope she maxed out the miles earned and spent the $11,078 on a category that earns bonus miles.
