Cayman Airways is expanding its US footprint with the launch of new seasonal nonstop service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM). The carrier plans to operate the route from May 24th through August 16th. This will mark the first time Central Texas travelers will have nonstop access to the Cayman Islands.
The 1x weekly Sunday service will be operated with Cayman Airways’ Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Cayman Airways and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism note that Austin has shown steady tourism growth to the islands even without nonstop service, which makes the market a logical next step for expansion.
For Cayman Airways, the addition of Austin strengthens its US network. The airline currently flies nonstop to these other US cities:
- Denver International Airport (DEN)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Tampa International Airport (TPA)
Tickets for the seasonal route will go on sale January 30th with flight schedules to be announced at that time. The airline positions the route as a convenient option for travelers seeking a premium beach and diving destination as well as an attractive entry point for Americans seeking an easier Caribbean getaway from inland markets.

Paul Tibbetts, Executive Vice President for Commercial Affairs and Chief Financial Officer for Cayman Airways, said:
Austin has emerged as a strong and growing source market for the Cayman Islands, with steady increases in visitor arrivals over recent years, despite the absence of nonstop flights. Data analysis conducted in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism identified Austin as one of the largest unserved U.S. markets for Cayman travel, with particularly strong demand during the summer period, and we’re excited to be the first airline to blaze this new trail for the Cayman Islands. The route will also eliminate the need for one or more connections through major U.S. hubs, providing greater convenience and travel time savings for passengers.”
Anthony’s Take: Grand Cayman is a great Caribbean escape and I have meaning to go back. I will check out Cayman Airways Tampa flight one of these days. It’s great to see this new seasonal service and the airline expand.
