I had never heard of the female rapper named Sexyy Red before seeing this surveillance video. Red is a 26-year-old native of St. Louis whose real name is Janae Nierah Wherry. Apparently, she has been named a breakout artist by Billboard and is known for her singles “Pound Town” (with Tay Keith) and “Pound Town 2” (with Nicki Minaj). Security footage taken at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on Saturday shows a brawl between a group of men with the rapper in the midst of the melee and brandishing a metal stanchion.

TMZ shared the video above. It takes place at Gate C82 in United’s Terminal C. The group fights and Sexyy Red jumps in with a metal stanchion (used to divide the boarding lanes). She is stopped and falls over. Airport security gets involved and stops the scrimmage. Reportedly, several people were charged with assault and Red was taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct. There were also some injuries that sent a few people to the hospital. No word has been released as to what caused the disturbance at the gate.
Even after being detained, Sexyy Red performed at the Governors Ball and fulfilled her hosting duties at the WWE NXT Battleground.
Anthony’s Take: There’s never a dull moment at Newark Airport. I will never understand why people can’t behave on planes and in airports.
