Back in September 2025, I wrote about Cathay Pacific bringing back a route to/from the United States. It has officially relaunched the nonstop route connecting Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) today. The restarting service operates 5x weekly and represents the only nonstop connection between the Pacific Northwest region of the United States and Hong Kong. Cathay last flew this route in 2020.
With the addition of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Cathay Pacific now serves seven cities in the United States and nine across North America. The route launch comes as part of a broader strategy to deepen connectivity between Hong Kong and key global markets. Other cities served include:
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

The launch coincides with Cathay Pacific’s 80th anniversary, celebrating eight decades since the airline’s founding in 1946. To mark the occasion, the inaugural flight featured a specially painted Airbus A350 with a heritage-inspired livery, incorporating the airline’s historic design elements alongside a commemorative anniversary mark.
Flights between Seattle and Hong Kong are operated by the Airbus A350-900, which offers a modern long-haul experience across all cabins. This includes 38 Business Class, 28 Premium Economy, and 214 Economy Class seats.
The Seattle launch is part of a broader push into the North American market. Cathay Pacific plans to open a new flagship lounge at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in 2026 (located within the airport’s new Terminal 6 development). Additionally, the airline is rolling out its latest cabin products, including the Aria Suite Business class and upgraded Premium Economy, on select routes across its network.
Anthony’s Take: The introduction of nonstop service between Seattle and Hong Kong represents a significant milestone for both the airline and the region. It provides travelers with a direct, high-quality option for transpacific travel while reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a major global aviation hub.
