British Airways is currently offering status matches to elite members of several airlines who are also residents of the United States and Canada. The status matches last six month unless you complete some simple requirements to extend the status.
British Airways Executive Club has four status tiers: Blue, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. You earn Blue as soon as you join the program. Bronze is earned after 300 Tier Points, Silver takes 600 Tier Points, and Gold requires 1,500 Tier Points. The status match offer is for the two top tiers.
In order to qualify, you need to hold elite status in one of the airlines above and live in the US or Canada. I hold both Delta Diamond Medallion and United Premier 1K® status and will match to British Airways Executive Club Gold status. Status is valid for six months and extended to one year if you take two British Airways coded transatlantic flights (or one roundtrip) in Business or First Class. The flight needs to be operated by British Airways, American, Iberia, or Finnair and land in Europe, Norway, or Switzerland (not sure why those two countries are called out as they are part of Europe). These must be paid flights. It also must originate in the US, Canada, or Mexico. Head for Points first reported on this status match. If you qualify, register here. This must be completed by May 7th.
The most exciting part of these status matches is the lounge access they provide. Executive Club Silver will grant you oneworld Sapphire status and access to Business Class lounges on oneworld airlines including American Airlines Admirals Clubs on domestic itineraries. British Airways Executive Club Gold status will grant you oneworld Emerald status and access to First Class lounges around the world.
Anthony’s Take: This is a great opportunity if you have any plans to fly British Airways or any other oneworld airline (including American and Alaska Airlines). There is no word on how long this match will last, so if you’re interested register now.
