A British Airways flight attendant was found dead in his bed while the crew was laying over in San Francisco. Fellow crewmembers thought something was off when he failed to report for work. Hotel management opened the room and discovered the deceased flight attendant.
The Daily Mail reported that the flight attendant arrived on Tuesday and was supposed to work this flight on Friday. British Airways flight BA284 from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) was cancelled. Passengers were not told of the cause, but were provided with hotel vouchers. Crew was too distraught to work the flight after hearing the news. The return flight (BA285) was cancelled the next day so that the aircraft could return to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) with a different crew and those scheduled to work the original flight could deadhead back.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, but initial reports suggest that there was no foul play. If this sounds familiar, an American Airlines flight attendant was found dead in her Philadelphia hotel room back in 2023. And, a 47-year-old British Airways first officer sadly died in front of tourists at a resort in Saint Lucia in 2024.
British Airways operates 2x daily flights between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) using Airbus A380-800 aircraft that can hold up to 469 passengers across cabins.
The airline released the following statement:
Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of our colleague at this difficult time.”
Anthony’s Take: What a sad situation. The flight attendant was said to be young and there was no indication from colleagues that he was ill. My condolences to his family, friends, and coworkers.
