Back in September, I wrote about how Breeze Airways became the first airline in more than 10 years to be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a US Flag Carrier. This certification follows a rigorous evaluation process and allows the airline to begin operating flights to international destinations (other US Flag Carriers include Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, United, etc.). Among the first destinations announced was Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ). This Jamaican airport was to be served from both Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and Tampa International Airport (TPA). Those plans have now been put on hold as damage from Hurricane Melissa caused extensive damage to the airport and many other parts of the island.
Montego Bay had been positioned as one of Breeze’s three inaugural international destinations. It was set to join Cancún International Airport (CUN) and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the carrier’s first wave of routes beyond the United States. The airline had planned to launch service from Tampa International Airport (TPA) on February 11th and from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on March 5th.

Those flights are not bookable and the launch dates have been pushed to an undisclosed time. Breeze now expects to begin service to Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ) sometime in late 2026. It does not appear on Breeze’s current route map.
