Azores Airlines announced today that it’s planning to move to the upcoming Terminal One at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) when it opens in 2026. With its operations being housed there, the Portuguese airline will join Air France, KLM, Korean Air, SAS, China Airlines, EGYPTAIR, China Eastern, LOT Polish Airlines, EVA Air, Air Serbia, Neos, Philippine Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air New Zealand, Royal Air Maroc, Air China, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways in addition to others who have committed to occupying the new facility.

When it’s completed in 2030, Terminal One will be the largest terminal at JFK. The terminal is being built on sites now occupied by the current Terminal One, the recently closed Terminal Two, and the former Terminal Three. When completed, it will include expansive departures and arrivals halls as well as 23 gates in total. This a huge part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of the airport, which includes two new terminals along with the modernization and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a new roadway network. It will also feature a selection of retail that is being compared to Fifth Avenue and New York City’s iconic markets. Azores Airlines flies to/from Ponta Delgada’s John Paul II Ponta Delgada Airport (PDL) up to 6x weekly using Airbus A321neo aircraft. These offer 16 Business Class and 170 Economy Class seats.

Jennifer Aument, Chief Executive Officer, The New Terminal One at JFK, said:

We are thrilled to welcome Azores Airlines to the New Terminal One and to strengthen New York’s connection with the Azores. This partnership underscores our commitment to serving a diverse community of global airlines—from large network carriers to operators that connect distinct regions and cultures around the world. We look forward to collaborating with our colleagues at Azores Airlines to elevate the experience for their customers traveling through New York City and to introduce travelers to the natural wonders of the Azores.”

Anthony’s Take: The new Terminal One looks gorgeous and will serve as a great welcome to the United States for many travelers. I can’t wait to check it out and be free of the horrible traffic at JFK.
