Avelo Airlines is expanding its options on the East Coast after abandoning California last month. Yesterday, it announced six new nonstop routes that include the first-ever international service from Wilmington International Airport (ILM) (the one in North Carolina) , three new routes from Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA), and the addition of a new destination: Key West International Airport (EYW). Avelo will be the only airline offering nonstop flights on each of these routes.

Avelo launched in 2021 and operates a fleet of modern Boeing 737 aircraft. It serves destinations across the United States and competes with Spirit Airways, Breeze Airways, Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines. The airline is focusing on the East Coast and the latest additions strengthen its position there. These include:

  • Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) to/from Albany International Airport (ALB) (4x weekly; starts on October 23rd)
  • Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) to/from Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) (4x weekly; starts on October 23rd)
  • Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) to/from San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) (2x weekly; starts on October 22nd)
  • Wilmington International Airport (ILM) to/from Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) (2x weekly; starts on November 20th)
  • Wilmington International Airport (ILM) to/from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) (2x weekly; starts on December 24th)
  • Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport (HVN) to/from Key West International Airport (EYW) (2x weekly; starts on November 19th)

Avelo will offer 17 nonstop destinations to/from Wilmington International Airport (ILM) and eight to/from Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA). This route network growth strengthens Avelo’s presence in key East Coast markets and adds unique nonstop flights to highly sought-after leisure destinations. The carrier’s focus on underserved airports and affordable fares continues to open new travel opportunities.

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, said:

We continue to Inspire Travel by growing our network at our newest bases. We’re adding a new destination in Key West, giving ILM their first international destination to the Dominican Republic and three new routes to our Charlotte base. These new routes offer our Customers even more choices, making it easier and more affordable than ever for our Customers to get where they want to go.”

Anthony’s Take: Avelo has seen some negative press lately both for its withdrawal from the West Coast and for deportation flights that it’s operating for the government. Let’s see how these new routes perform and if the public will reject the airline based on its recent activity.
