Avelo Airlines has opened its sixth base at Central Florida’s Lakeland International Airport (LAL). The tiny airport resumed passenger service for the first time in over a decade back in June. I took the inaugural flight from the airport (review here) and hope to fly out of here again when I’m in Tampa. Today, Avelo is launching the first two of four new routes.
The following new destinations started launching today:
- Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) (2x weekly on Thursdays and Sundays; starts on October 24th)
- Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) (2x weekly on Mondays and Fridays; starts on October 25th)
- Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) (2x weekly on Mondays and Fridays; starts on October 25th)
- San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) (2x weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays; starts on October 26th)
Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, said:
Our new base at Lakeland offers Floridians easy access to air travel, especially for Customers who value the convenience of a small airport. Customers flying into Lakeland from any of our new destinations can expect more time and freedom to explore Florida in any direction they choose. Lakeland is the perfect complement to our operations in MCO and offers yet another choice among the other Florida airports we serve. It has all the attributes we look for to provide affordable travel between the places people want to fly.”
Anthony’s Take: The airport is only a 35-minute drive from me in Tampa and I hope to take advantage of just how easy this airport is to fly to/from. Tampa International Airport (TPA) is closer and also super convenient, but I like the idea of having a second option.

Collected another inaugural ticket folder this morning. Lakeland had juice/donuts in the gate. Concord had a water cannon salute on arrival and county visitors bureau had cakes/pastries. Flight was about 2/3 full. I had 3 seats to myself in one of the front extra legroom rows.
I love that you hit so many inaugurals 🙂
