Low-cost carrier, Avelo Airlines opened its seventh base today at Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL). To celebrate, Avelo is also launching seven new routes.
With the creation of this base, Avelo will have two in Connecticut (Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport (HVN) is the other). The airline will station three of its Boeing 737 aircraft here to handle the flights into and out of this airport. New routes departing from Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) include:
- Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) (2x weekly; starts today, November 7th)
- Cancún International Airport (CUN) (2x weekly; starts today, November 20th)
- Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) (2x weekly; starts on November 8th)
- Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) (2x weekly; starts on November 15th)
- Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) (2x weekly; starts on November 8th)
- Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ) (2x weekly; starts on November 16th)
- Wilmington International Airport (ILM) (2x weekly; starts on November 10th)
Notably, Avelo Airlines will launch its first two international routes from Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL). Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, said:
Avelo is proud to be Connecticut’s Airline. Our Customers tell us they love flying Avelo, and we’re excited to make flying Avelo even more convenient for travelers across the state. With 29 nonstop destinations, including two popular international locations, it’s easier than ever for travelers to seamlessly and reliably get to and from Connecticut. Our presence at BDL is a testament to the welcoming reception Avelo has enjoyed across the state. I appreciate the support Avelo has received from government, community and business leaders throughout Connecticut. And with three consecutive profitable quarters, Avelo is well-positioned for even more growth in the future.”
Breeze Airways already operates a base in Hartford and flies nonstop to the following destinations:
- Charleston International Airport (CHS)
- John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH)
- Jacksonville International Airport (JAX)
- Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
- Norfolk International Airport (ORF)
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU)
- Richmond International Airport (RIC)
- Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV)
- Tampa International Airport (TPA)
It will be interesting to see the two carriers compete from this airport.
Anthony’s Take: I flew on the inaugural flight from Central Florida’s Lakeland International Airport (LAL) (review here) and enjoyed the experience, overall. It’s great to see Avelo Airlines continuing to grow.

Flying on their first Concord to Wilmington (DE) flight tomorrow. This route oddly enough works perfectly for my family so quite happy with it.
Love that you hit up so many of those.
Nothing against Hartford but do “that” many people really want to fly to Hartford? I guess so.
