Avelo Airlines is a low-cost carrier that offers flights to many underserved airports across the United States. It serves 53 destinations across the United States, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. The airline is rather bare bones in that it does not offer Wi-Fi, power outlets, and until today’s announcement, only one type of seating. The airline will soon add two new options known as “Stretch” and “Stretch+.” Both offer more space with Stretch+ including a blocked middle seat.
The shift towards more premium travel experiences has been going on for the past year or so with airlines like Frontier and JetBlue promising First Class cabins and Spirit rebranding its Big Front Seats into more of a First Class experience. Avelo will not install new seats, but starting in September will have three options:
- Standard: Current Economy Class seats.
- Stretch: Extra legroom with pitch ranging from 32 to 36+ inches.
- Stretch+: Blocked middle seat.
In addition to advance seat assignments, Avelo offers several unbundled options like priority boarding, checked bags, carry-on bags, and the ability to bring a pet in the cabin.
Avelo Airlines Chief Commercial Officer, Brian Davis, said:
Stretch and Stretch+ reflects our commitment to giving travelers more choice and comfort while staying true to what sets us apart: convenient, reliable, and affordable service. We know comfort matters and this new option offers a better experience for those who want it, without changing the value our Customers expect from us.”
Anthony’s Take: I’ve flown Avelo once on its inaugural flight from Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) (review here). I was seated in the bulkhead and found the space to be fine. I like the new additions (especially the blocked middle seat). Now, we just need Wi-Fi and power.
