Avelo Airlines tweaked its schedule to cut four routes from its current network. The cancellations will be split between Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) and Wilmington Airport (ILG) in Delaware.

The low-cost carrier will end these four routes:

  • Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) to/from Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) (2x weekly; ends on March 30th)
  • Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) to/from Wilmington International Airport (ILM) (in North Carolina) (2x weekly; ends on March 30th)
  • Wilmington Airport (ILG) (in Delaware) to/from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) (2x weekly; ends on February 27th)
  • Wilmington Airport (ILG) (in Delaware) to/from Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) (2x weekly; ends on February 27th)

With these cuts, Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) will only be connected to four cities. Three of those are international and it appears that Avelo is trying to focus on these Central American/Caribbean flights from there (plus one city in Florida). These include:

  • Cancún International Airport (CUN)
  • Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB)
  • Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
  • Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ)

In November, Avelo announced that it was adding two new bases of operation at Charlotte’s Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) and Wilmington International Airport (ILM). Both of these are now seeing cuts.

Anthony’s Take: I flew on the inaugural flight from Central Florida’s Lakeland International Airport (LAL) last year (review here) and enjoyed the experience, overall. Avelo, like all airlines, is constantly evaluating what is working and makes changes accordingly.
