Avelo Airlines is a low-cost carrier that offers flights to many underserved airports across the United States. Today, it announced that it’s celebrating the fourth anniversary of the launch of the airline and its first flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to Sonoma County Airport (STS). Along with the anniversary note, Avelo reshared the news that it will add 14 new routes including three new destinations in the next 60 days. I initially covered these routes back in March.
Since launching in 2021, Avelo has flown nearly seven million passengers on more than 55,000 flights. These include service to 54 destinations and more than 90 routes started in this time. The airline has also grown to more than 1,100 crewmembers and operates eight aircraft and crew bases with its fleet of 20 Boeing Next-Generation 737s.
Today, Avelo serves 54 cities across 21 states, Puerto Rico, and four international destinations: The Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Over the past four years, Avelo has grown its network from 10 routes to 93 routes. In the next 60 days, Avelo will continue to grown and will inaugurate 14 new routes, including three new destinations: Grand Rapids Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR), Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP), and Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS).
Avelo Airlines Founder, Chairman, and CEO Andrew Levy, said:
Four years ago Avelo took flight with a simple but powerful purpose – to Inspire Travel. Since then, we have fulfilled that mission for nearly seven million Customers who have experienced our money-saving low fares and time-saving convenience. Today, with 54 destinations including Puerto Rico and four international destinations: Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, it’s easier and more affordable than ever to visit so many beautiful, vibrant, and popular locations. More airplanes and destinations are on the way, and we look forward to welcoming aboard millions of new and returning Customers in the years ahead.”
To commemorate its fourth anniversary, Avelo is offering a promo code for 40% off round trip base fares on select flights between May and November. Use code “4YEARS” to apply the discount.
While celebrations around its fourth anniversary are in order, the airline has not been without recent controversy. The airline signed an agreement with the United States Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Immigration Control and Enforcement (ICE) agency to carry out deportation flights from Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) in Arizona as well as other airports served by Avelo. Three of the airline’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be used to fly domestic and international flights on behalf of the DHS. This did not sit right with many people and a petition to boycott the airline is circulating. To date, almost 35,000 people have signed.
Anthony’s Take: Happy fourth anniversary, Avelo. I love that the airline opened nearby Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) and that it’s bringing service to areas without a lot of options.

I think a celebratory flight to a Central American prison to commemorate the occasion is in order.
