Avelo launched in 2021 and operates a fleet of modern Boeing 737 aircraft. It serves destinations across the United States and competes with Spirit Airways, Breeze Airways, Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines. It abandoned the West Coast earlier this year and has been much more focused on the East Coast and Midwest. Today, Avelo announced that it is adding six new and returning flights to its route map. Avelo will be the only carrier offering nonstop service on five of the routes.
I was on Avelo’s first flight from Lakeland International Airport (LAL). It’s still the only carrier flying there and is adding flights to/from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) (2x weekly; starts on February 11th). With this addition, Avelo will fly to 10 destinations nonstop from this Central Florida airport.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) will also see two new routes. These include:
- Charlotte’s Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) (4x weekly; starts on February 12th)
- Wilmington Airport (ILG) (4x weekly; starts on March 12th)
The other three upcoming routes are as follows:
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Lakeland International Airport (LAL) (5x weekly; starts on February 13th)
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Wilmington Airport (ILG) (5x weekly; starts on February 12th)
- Charlotte’s Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) to/from Nashville International Airport (BNA) (4x weekly; starts on February 12th)
Avelo Airlines’ Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, said:
We continue to Inspire Travel by growing our network at our Central Florida, Charlotte and Philadelphia bases. We’re adding new Chicago routes, spring training flights between Detroit and Lakeland, and the return of popular Atlanta and Nashville routes as we add planes to our bases and expand our offerings. These new routes offer travelers even more choices, making it easier and more affordable than ever for our Customers to get where they want to go.”
To celebrate the new routes, Avelo is offering some fares on sale starting at $34 each way. These can be booked here.
Anthony’s Take: Avelo got some negative press lately both for its withdrawal from the West Coast and for deportation flights. It looks like it’s trying to pivot here as these are the first routes being added in some time.
