Avelo Airlines launched in 2021 and operates a fleet of modern Boeing 737 aircraft. It serves destinations across the United States and competes with Spirit Airways, Breeze Airways, Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines. Avelo recently celebrated its third birthday and has been aggressively tweaking the route network, adding new destinations, cutting some, and it opened a sixth aircraft base in June. Today, the airline announced four new and returning flights from Delaware’s Wilmington Airport (ILG).

Travelers from “The First State” will soon see four new/returning routes. Avelo is the only airline serving Delaware’s Wilmington Airport (ILG). Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is a mere 27 miles away and serves as a hub for American Airlines. New/returning routes include:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) (2x weekly on Mondays and Fridays; starts on November 8th)
  • Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) (2x weekly on Thursdays and Sundays; starts on November 7th)
  • Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) (2x weekly on Mondays and Fridays; starts on November 8th)
  • Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) (2x weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays; starts on November 23rd)

With these additions, Avelo Airlines will serve 13 destinations from Delaware’s Wilmington Airport (ILG). These include:

  • Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA)
  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
  • Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL)
  • Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU)
  • Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)
  • Tampa International Airport (TPA)
  • Wilmington International Airport (ILM)

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, said:

Avelo is proud to be the Philadelphia / Delaware Valley region’s airline of choice and continue growth at ILG with a new route to Atlanta, the return of Daytona Beach, the Palm Beaches and Sarasota-Bradenton and adding back our second based aircraft. Our Customers tell us they love the convenience, affordability and reliability of flying Avelo at ILG. I appreciate the support Avelo has received from community leaders across the state and send special thanks to our awesome ILG Crewmembers who make it all happen.”

Avelo also plans to base a second Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft at the airport to cover these route adds.

Anthony’s Take: Avelo continues to add to its route network and part of me really wants to fly to Delaware to check that off the list. I might have to fly from Tampa or Lakeland soon.
