Last month, I wrote about American Airlines’ plans to open new lounges at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Today, the airline revealed some of the upcoming food and drink options coming to its Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges when they open in Terminal A-West this summer. Chef-driven menus, local specialties, and full-service bars will soon await passengers.

Chef Randy Rucker

The new Flagship® lounge will offer what American calls “local flavors [with a] first-class finish.” James Beard Award Semifinalist® Chef Randy Rucker will create the menu for the lounge. Expect dishes like cauliflower vichyssoise, whipped ricotta and blistered tomato toast, Maryland-style crab soup, and salted caramel budino. A Reading Terminal-inspired Candy Bar (Reading Terminal Market is one of my favorite spots) will also be offered with saltwater taffy, butterscotch candies, peppermint puffs, and more.

Throughout the lounge, guests will find action stations. These will offer dining options like a morning omelet bar with add-ons including local Amish cheddar and Kennet Square cremini mushrooms, a build-your-own roast pork sandwich station, and an evening Boardwalk Water Ice and Gelati bar.

Sunset Cocktail AA

The Philadelphia Flagship® lounge will be the first location to feature a full-service bar offering premium wines, six local beers, as well as bartender-crafted cocktails and mocktails. Some of those featured cocktails include the Broad Street Old Fashioned and the Schuylkill Sunset, which is a nod to the sunset found at Philly’s Boathouse Road. Seasonal mocktails like the Berry Coconito and Dream of ’76 will also be available.

Like the Chase Sapphire Lounges, guests will also be able to order from a QR code-enabled a la carte menu with items like:

  • The shore start breakfast sandwich with pork roll and tomato jam
  • Ebelskivers, a Danish pancake with maple cream and apple compote
  • A tofu truffle “cheesesteak” with cashew cheese and black garlic aioli
  • A signature ribeye cheesesteak with tartufo provoleta and pickled long hots

The Admirals Club® located next store will also offer an elevated experience.

Guests will be able to enjoy breakfast and all-day menus, with dishes like:

  • Tahini protein bites, breakfast sliders and cinnamon coffee cake
  • Lobster bisque, chimichurri lentils, Cuban rolls and charcuterie boards
  • Sweet finishes, including Tate’s cookies and brownie bites

The full-service bar will serve cocktails, mocktails, and other complimentary beverages. A grab-and-go section offers snacks like Heaven & Earth Beet Chips and So Gouda Keto Trios.

Anthony’s Take: I loved my recent visit to the Flagship® lounge at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). This one looks even nicer. The integration of local dishes and nods to the city are nice touches.
