Two American Airlines aircraft clipped wings at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) earlier today. One of the aircraft was carrying at least a six US House members when the incident occurred around 12:45 PM.

American Eagle flight AA5490 (operated by PSA Airlines) was headed to Charleston International Airport (CHS) and flight AA4522 (operated by Republic Airways) was also set to takeoff for New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) when the Bombardier CRJ900 and Embraer E175 clipped wings. No injuries were reported among the combined 143 passengers and eight crewmembers on both planes.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released the following statement:

American Eagle flight 5490, operated by PSA Airlines, made contact on a DCA taxiway with American Eagle flight 4522, operated by Republic Airways.”

The members of Congress on the New York-bound flight included Representative Gregory Meeks (D-NY), Representative Nick LaLota (R-NY), Representative Grace Meng (D-NY), Representative Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Representative Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), and Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY).

Anthony’s Take: Many travelers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) have been nervous since the crash in January that claimed 67 lives. Thankfully, this incident was minor and there were no injuries.
