Back in August 2024, I wrote about American Express planning to open the first lounge operated by a credit card provider at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). The nearly 18,000-square-foot Centurion® Lounge is now open. This is the 31st Centurion® Lounge globally and it offers travelers a luxurious retreat infused with Utah’s natural beauty, art, and culinary creativity.

Located in Concourse B near Gate 31, the new Centurion® Lounge welcomes guests daily from 4:45 AM to 11:15 PM MT. The design and experience are tailored to reflect Utah’s breathtaking landscapes and outdoor spirit, making the space feel both refined and regionally inspired. The new lounge along with the Delta Sky Club® (which also opened today) provide havens for travelers in one of the country’s fastest-growing airports. Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) saw a record 28 million visitors in 2024.

A signature feature of the new lounge is a year-round outdoor terrace that offers panoramic views of the Wasatch Mountains. Inside, guests will find a ski-lodge-inspired Hearth Room, a Blue Roast by American Express coffee bar, two full-service bars, and a buffet from The Culinary Collective by The Centurion Lounge.

The food and beverage program draws inspiration from award-winning chefs and mixologists who form part of The Culinary Collective by The Centurion Lounge. The rotating, seasonal menus showcase a range of dishes from James Beard Award® winners including Kwame Onwuachi, Mashama Bailey, Mike Solomonov, and Sarah Grueneberg (complemented by signature cocktails crafted by Bar Director Harrison Ginsberg).

Guests can expect inventive creations such as Caribbean Wedding Soup, Farro Pilaf, Grilled Cabbage with Tehina, Harissa, and Mint, and Earl Grey Panna Cotta with Gingered Apple and Maple Oat Crumble. The signature Park City Sling (a refreshing blend of gin, tart cherry, and lemon) pays homage to Utah’s alpine allure. At the Blue Roast coffee bar, guests can enjoy barista-made espresso, cold brew, and seasonal specialty drinks, served alongside a bright, naturally lit workspace ideal for productivity or relaxation.

The lounge’s design draws from Utah’s salt flats, mountain ranges, and night skies, creating a serene yet sophisticated environment. The entrance features a striking ceiling installation composed of layered, hand-poured glass flakes reminiscent of the glimmering textures of salt crystals.

Throughout the lounge, local artistry takes center stage. Highlights include:

  • A mixed-media collage of the American Express bulldog mascot reimagined through Utah’s landscape by Erin Blundell.
  • A woven tapestry inspired by the state’s mountains and salt flats by Rebecca Whitaker.
  • A custom lighting installation by Lindsey Adelman, designed to mirror constellations in Salt Lake City’s famously clear night skies.

The use of warm woods, earthy tones, and natural textures gives the lounge a sense of modern mountain luxury, while expansive windows flood the space with natural light.

Every corner of the lounge has been crafted to enhance comfort and connection, offering travelers a variety of locally inspired, premium amenities:

  • Hearth Room: A 360-degree fireplace surrounded by plush seating and local artwork evokes the warmth and intimacy of a luxury mountain lodge.
  • Outdoor Terrace: Open year-round, the terrace allows guests to enjoy mountain air by a cozy fireplace with uninterrupted views of the Wasatch Range.
  • Recovery Room: Designed for relaxation and renewal, the room features massage guns, compression boots, and healthy snacks for post-adventure rejuvenation.
  • Flexible Seating: Options range from quiet workspaces and café tables to reservable meeting rooms and a private VIP room for Centurion Members.
  • Signature Comforts: The lounge includes premium shower suites, private phone nooks, abundant charging outlets, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi.

Audrey Hendley, President of American Express Travel, said:

With strong year-round Card Member demand for travel to Salt Lake City, expanding the Centurion Lounge network here is a natural fit,. The lounge offers a refined, welcoming environment that provides eligible Card Members a premium place to relax and recharge.”

Bill Wyatt, Executive Director at Salt Lake City Department of Airports, added:

The Centurion Lounge is a welcome addition to Salt Lake City International Airport. American Express is refining the traveler experience with elevated service, curated amenities and gourmet dining, making the journey through Salt Lake City truly exceptional.”

Anthony’s Take: I need to find a way to get to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). Both this lounge and the new Delta Sky Club® look phenomenal. Frequent travelers at SLC will now have some great new choices.
