American Airlines is elevating the premium travel experience in Charlotte with a Flagship® lounge and expansion to its Admirals Club® footprint at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). The investment represents exciting news for American’s second-largest hub and the announcement comes shortly after American opened its new Provisions by Admirals Club℠ this month.
This will significantly increase the lounge space offered to American’s customers traveling through Charlotte. The Flagship® lounge is set to deliver a premium experience for eligible travelers once it opens. Additional construction timelines have not yet been announced. Currently, American operates three lounges at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT):
- Admirals Clubs® in Concourses B and C/D
- Provisions by Admirals Club℠ (a grab-and-go concept located in Concourse A and the first of its kind in American’s network)
Charlotte plays a critical role in American’s operations and connects millions of passengers to more than 170 destinations in 27 countries around the world. The airline employs 15,500 people in Charlotte. In January 2026, PSA Airlines (one of American’s wholly owned regional partners), will also relocate its headquarters there.
The Flagship® Lounge Experience
The Flagship® lounge will offer:
- A champagne greeting upon arrival
- Locally inspired menus created by award-winning chefs
- Distinctly designed spaces, or “neighborhoods,” balancing comfort, style, and functionality
- Comfortable seating for rest and relaxation
- Bar and dining spaces to connect, dine, and collaborate
- Spa-style shower suites, private workstations, and a kid-friendly family room
The Charlotte opening follows the debut of American’s newest Flagship® lounge at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). This will be the sixth Flagship® lounge in American’s network. By bringing the Flagship® lounge experience to Charlotte and expanding Admirals Club® offerings, American is reaffirming the airport’s role as a vital hub for its global network. These upgrades promise not only to enhance the airport experience for travelers, but also to reinforce Charlotte’s standing as a gateway to the world.
Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, said:
As an airline, we’re committed to meeting the needs of our customers, and we’re excited to continue to invest in our lounges at CLT. These improvements will introduce a premium experience for our Flagship® customers and provide more space in our Admirals Club® lounges.”
Anthony’s Take: American’s Flagship® lounges offer a great experience. I have only been to the location at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and enjoyed the experience.
