American Airlines is approaching its 100th anniversary and the carrier just marked a major milestone: the arrival of its 1,000th mainline aircraft. The Boeing 787-9, which features the airline’s newly launched Flagship Suite® seats landed at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on August 29th.

Since April, American has received eight Boeing 787-9 aircraft equipped with the Flagship Suite® and has 30 in total on order. These widebody jets currently operate the following routes:

  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to/from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to/from London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to/from London Heathrow Airport (LHR)

American plans to expand service to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) next year with additional premium-configured Boeing 787-9s. The airline also confirmed that flights from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to/from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) will begin in November.

  • Amenity kits stocked with skincare and beauty products

Inflight service includes chef-inspired multicourse dining, a wine service, and curated snacks to ensure a restaurant-quality experience.

In the coming months, travelers can look forward to enjoying the Boeing 787-9 Flagship Suite® on an expanding list of long-haul routes. These include:

  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to/from Auckland Airport (AKL)

With this milestone announcement, American strengthens its position as the world’s largest airline by fleet size. The addition of the 1,000th aircraft not only reflects American’s growth, but also demonstrates its renewed focus on innovation, comfort, and customer experience as it prepares to celebrate its 100th year in aviation history.

Anthony’s Take: Congrats, American. The Flagship Suites® on these Boeing 787-9 aircraft look great. I hope to check them out in 2026.
