American Airlines is expanding its premium offerings in Central Texas with plans to open a larger Admirals Club® lounge at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). This will introduce the first outdoor terrace space in the airline’s global lounge network.

The new lounge will span more than 12,000 square feet on the west side of the terminal (roughly doubling the size of the airline’s current space). Construction is expected to begin later this year, while the existing lounge will remain open to customers throughout the building process.

A standout feature of the new lounge will be an outdoor terrace overlooking the airport and downtown Austin. The open-air space will allow travelers to enjoy views of the airfield and the city skyline, offering a distinctive experience not currently available at any other Admirals Club® location. This is something that Delta has done well in many Sky Clubs® and it’s great to see American add this space.

The terrace is part of American Airlines’ broader effort to modernize its lounge portfolio and introduce more locally inspired elements into the travel experience.

Inside the new lounge, American Airlines plans to create a variety of spaces tailored to different traveler needs. The design will include dedicated zones for relaxing, dining, working, and recharging devices, all built with an emphasis on comfort, functionality, and modern design. The larger footprint will allow the airline to accommodate more passengers while offering an upgraded lounge environment for customers traveling through the rapidly growing Austin market.

Passengers visiting Admirals Club® will also have access to new premium offerings introduced across American’s lounge network. These include Lavazza coffee and Champagne Bollinger, which is available for purchase in Admirals Club locations systemwide.

American Airlines currently operates nearly 50 daily flights from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). It serves 11 destinations and provides connections to more than 350 destinations worldwide through its broader network.

American’s Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden, said:

As we elevate our presence in Austin, we’re excited to bring a new level of comfort and hospitality to our customers. This new Admirals Club® lounge will reflect the vibrant spirit of Austin while offering the thoughtful design and premium amenities our customers expect.”

Anthony’s Take: The new lounge investment reflects the airline’s continued commitment to improving the premium travel experience while strengthening its presence in the Austin community and one of the fastest-growing air travel markets in the United States. This news comes after Delta announced that it is also planning something special in Austin (with the first Delta One® Lounge coming to a non-hub airport).
