American Airlines opened a new lounge concept today with Provisions by Admirals Club℠ debuting at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). The new space reflects American’s evolving approach to customer service, offering speed, simplicity, and convenience to travelers. It offers grab-and-go convenience for passengers that don’t have time for a traditional lounge experience.

The new lounge is located in Concourse A next to Gate A1. It’s designed for travelers who want a quick break before boarding. Charlotte is American’s second-largest hub and Provisions by Admirals Club℠ is set now an essential stopover for the millions of passengers who connect there each year. Unlike traditional lounges designed for extended stays, Provisions by Admirals Club℠ is built for efficiency and high-traffic volume. The space features a streamlined, minimalist design with high-top standing tables and limited furniture to encourage guests to get in, grab a bite to eat, and get out. This concept seems similar to what Capital One has been offering and the Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge offering that American Express previewed today (although that is more meant for consumption in the small lounge).

The space offers prepackaged to-go items for travel ease. Breakfast is served from 6:15 AM to 11 AM daily. It features light bites including pastries, snack mixes, yogurt, and fruit (along with more substantial breakfast meal boxes). All day offerings are served from 11 AM to 10:45 PM daily. These feature a mix of salty snacks, sweet treats, and filling meal boxes. Vegetarian options are available at all open hours. A beverage station allows for travelers to grab canned and bottled beverages, coffee, and tea.

Access to Provisions by Admirals Club℠ will follow the same policies as traditional Admirals Club® locations:

  • Membership: Admirals Club® members and Citi®/AAdvantage® Executive cardholders
  • Elite Status: Eligible AAdvantage® status and oneworld® members on qualifying international itineraries
  • One-Day Pass: Available for purchase for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage® miles, valid for 24 hours

Whether you’re flying domestic or international, this lounge offers a quick option for travelers with tight connections or shorter layovers. American operates more than 670 peak-day departures out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to more than 170 destinations in 27 countries. This summer, American is operating its largest transatlantic schedule from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) with access to eight European destinations, including nonstop service to Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH).

Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, said:

We’re excited to open this new lounge space for our customers at CLT. Millions of customers travel through CLT on American every year and the Provisions by Admirals Club℠ lounge is focused on providing those customers with an easy and convenient solution during their travel journey.”

Anthony’s Take: American is stepping up its lounge game and joining United in the grab-and-go space. I love this concept and hope other locations are on the way.
