American Airlines is apparently having some catering issues with flights departing from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and possibly Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Flights under 900 miles are taking off without food and beverages while passengers are not being warned in advance.

Aviation watchdog @JonNYC shares on X that American flights are being told to takeoff without basics catered. Flights under 900 miles might even head out with bare bones offerings for passengers. Live And Let’s Fly further shared the following from a reader:

Flew PHL-JAX 6/24/2024, FA announcement:

  • New beverage policy on flights 900 and under
  • Orange Juice, Apple Juice, Water, Coffee/Tea
  • No ice, no soda, no alcohol (including beer/wine)
  • Ice provided from 1st class, if available

Sure enough, seated in economy, only the above beverages offered. During the announcement of the new policy, FA’s were noticeably annoyed by the policy and provided the email address to CS@ AA to complain. Appalling service change, so odd…cheap.”

American has even admitted that its facilities are not able to keep up with the number of flights.

@JohnNYC also shared that it’s only AA-operated airports that are having this issue and not those operated by third parties like Gate Gourmet, LSG Sky Chefs, etc.

Anthony’s Take: American has been bragging that it’s having its busiest season and that it leads in flights in the US this summer. It’s sad that passengers might have to travel without basics like beverages and that it’s AA itself that is having the issue with catering.
