American Airlines has been investing in its lounges recently. The carrier just opened new lounges in Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and today it announced its plans for a new Flagship® Lounge and an expanded Admirals Club® at Miami International Airport (MIA). This project is part of a larger effort to nearly double the amount of lounge space available to American’s flyers traveling through its busiest international gateway.
American currently operates three lounges at Miami International Airport (MIA). These include an Admirals Club® at Gate D15 as well as an Admirals Club® and Flagship® Lounge at Gate D30. The current Flagship® Lounge opened in 2017 and will be converted into an expansion of the D30 Admirals Club®.
What to Expect in the New Lounges
Eligible travelers passing through Miami International Airport (MIA) can look forward to elevated experiences designed with style, comfort, and function in mind. Key amenities include:

- “Neighborhood” zones tailored to different travel needs. These include a lounge areas for relaxing as well as bar and dining zones for meals and meetings
- Spa-style showers, family rooms, restrooms, and quiet workspaces

American Airlines is Miami-Dade County’s largest private employer with more than 14,500 based at Miami International Airport (MIA). The airport serves as American’s hub for flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. American offers 90 unique destinations served exclusively by the airline here.
Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of MIA Operations, said:
Building on more than three decades of investment in greater Miami, this is yet another milestone that solidifies Miami as a world-class destination and American as its hometown airline. Miami is our international gateway, where we serve more than 30 million customers annually — and growing — with more than 400 peak daily flights to 160+ destinations. The lounge experience plays a key role in enhancing that travel journey, offering a quiet and comfortable respite from the busy terminal, which is why we are so eager to give our Miami customers — including those connecting through our hub — new and improved spaces to relax, work and play.”
Anthony’s Take: I love the investments that American is making. It is way behind Delta and United in terms of amenities (and profitability). Hopefully, these changes will continue to push it on more of a premium track. No opening date has been provided.
