American Airlines has been making lots of schedule tweaks lately. A few weeks ago, I wrote about its additions at New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and one that was chopped (more here). Now, American is restoring two other routes from the NYC airport, launching a new Caribbean destination, and cutting a transcontinental route from Miami International Airport (MIA).

Florida

Winter Florida Routes

American will be flying two more Florida cities this winter from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Both launch on November 5th and run through May 5th. These include:

  • Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) (daily)
  • Tampa International Airport (TPA) (2x daily)

Turks

South Caicos Airport

American currently flies 2x daily from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Providenciales International Airport (PLS), which is the largest airport on the island and where I flew when I visited a few years ago. It will add 2x weekly service on February 15th (operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays) to South Caicos Airport (XSC), which is further south in Turks & Caicos. American will be the only commercial carrier serving this airport.

Miami

Goodbye Miami to Orange County

American giveth and it taketh away. Miami will see the loss of its transcontinental flight to Orange County’s John Wayne Airport (SNA) on August 5th. This route only began this past January and is already getting the axe. Travelers will need to fly to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) instead.

Anthony’s Take: American has a clear hold on the Caribbean and flies to more islands than any of the other major carriers. It’s great to see it testing a new destination and that it’s also beefing up its NYC presence further.
