American Airlines just announced five new international routes launching in summer 2026. The expanded network includes two new destinations in Europe as well as more service to three existing ones. American will be the only airline to offer nonstop flights to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) (LOT Polish was flying this route from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), but has dropped it).

Starting May 2026, American will add the following routes:

  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to/from Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) (starts on May 21st)
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to/from Zurich Airport (ZRH) (starts on May 21st)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA) to/from Silvio Berlusconi Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) (starts on March 29th)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to/from Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) (starts on May 21st)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to/from Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) (starts on May 21st)

Tickets for these routes will be available for purchase starting August 11th on American’s site and mobile app.

American is expanding its Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) hub with the addition of Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) and Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG), both will be served by new nonstop flights beginning in May. These historic cities will bring the number of transatlantic destinations served from Philadelphia to 20 in 2026. Travelers connecting through Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) can also enjoy American’s newly opened Flagship® Lounge and Admirals Club®.

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) will see the addition of American’s fifth route to Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) next May as well as additional flights to Zurich Airport (ZRH).

Finally, Miami International Airport (MIA) will offer daily service to/from Silvio Berlusconi Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP). This route complements the airline’s existing flights to Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) that began this summer.

Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, said:

Customers continue to tell us that Europe is where they want to go each summer and these new routes make it even easier to cross the Atlantic in 2026. We are excited to grow our network to new destinations like Prague and Budapest.”

Anthony’s Take: As American Airlines continues to grow its international network, summer 2026 is looking to be one of its most ambitious yet. With new nonstop service to more  European cities, the airline is giving travelers what they want (even though United still blows away the route map to Europe, overall).
