American Airlines announced today that it’s adding five new routes to Europe on its summer 2025 schedule. While no new cities are being added, these routes will make it easier for American’s passengers to get to Europe next year.

American Also flies to Madrid from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). These flights are operated with Boeing 777-200 and Boeing 787-8 aircraft (for the Philadelphia flights).

The airline operates flights to Rome from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) year-round (except for a few weeks in February) using a Boeing 787-8 aircraft. American is adding daily flights from Miami International Airport (MIA) on July 5th with a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, said:

We look forward to providing customers more ways to visit their favorite destinations in Europe next summer. Resuming service to Edinburgh and adding new routes to other popular destinations across the continent will offer customers convenient access from American’s industry-leading domestic network to all that Europe has to offer.”

American will also resume the routes that it added to the schedule this past summer:

  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to/from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) (daily; starts on March 30th)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA) to/from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) (daily service will extend into the summer)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to/from Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) (daily; starts on March 30th)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to/from Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP) (daily; starts on May 5th)

Anthony’s Take: American is not adding new cities this year, but it is adding routes and extending dates to make it easier for its flyers to get to Europe next summer. Tickets will be on sale on September 9th.

A fairly basic decision by American but a good one nonetheless. I’d be more impressed if the award prices weren’t so stunningly bad. I only checked Athens but 50k+ for economy seems a stretch.
