American Airlines will offer more flights, seats, and destinations than any other US airline to Mexico this year. The carrier just announced that it has added its 30th Mexican city to the map: Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM).
Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) is located on the coast of Oaxaca. It’s known for its beaches, nightlife, surfing, seafood, and more. American will operate year-round, 2x weekly flights between Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) starting on December 3rd. Flights will run on Wednesdays and Saturdays using Embraer 175 aircraft. These have 12 First Class, 20 Main Cabin Extra, and 44 Main Cabin seats.
José A. Freig, American’s Vice President of International, Contact Center Operations and Service Recovery, said:
With the announcement of American’s 30th destination in Mexico — Puerto Escondido — we further solidify our position as the leading U.S. airline in the country with an operation and network that is unmatched. Puerto Escondido is quickly becoming a top destination for travelers in search of tropical and relaxing getaways, and we are confident that our new service from Dallas-Fort Worth will offer our customers the opportunity to experience a unique part of Mexico.”
Mexico is the most popular international destination for travel from the United States. In November, American will offer the only international service from the state of Oklahoma with flights between Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers International Airport (OKC) and Cancún International Airport (CUN). American also debuted three new Mexican destinations last year: Tijuana International Airport (TIJ), Tulum International Airport (TQO), and Veracruz International Airport (VER).
United Airlines began flying to Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) 1x weekly on April 5th. American is clearly looking to dominate this airport with double the frequency.
Anthony’s Take: American has long dominated the Caribbean and Central America. It’s amazing to see 30 cities on offer in Mexico.
