American Airlines announced some changes to its Main Cabin buy-on-board offerings and that its adding tequila as a drink choice across cabins this week. The airline has been the most restrictive of the major US carriers on the routes that qualify for the selling of meals and snacks in flight.
Currently, only flights over 1,300 miles see fresh food for sale. This changes on June 1st when American will lower the distance to 1,100 miles. This opens lots of routes for food sales and will save hungry travelers the angst of trying to grab something before boarding if they’re tight on time. Expanded buy-on-board offerings include:
- A steak and pimento cheese sandwich
- Tray table tapas with olives, dried apricots, beef jerky, pistachios, white cheddar dip, pita chips, and brownie brittle
- Brooklyn Biltong Steakhouse Air Dried Beef Jerky
Premium passengers will see snack baskets refreshed on June 11th. There are three baskets served depending on the time of day. These include:
- Morning Snack Basket: Fresh clementine, B’cuz Cherry Pistachio Granola Bites, Think Jerky Free-Range Turkey Stick, Blake’s Seed-Based Breakfast Bar +Protein, Bare Organic Apple Chips, and Wonderful Sea Salt & Pepper Pistachios
- Midday Snack Basket: Tate’s Chocolate Chip Cookies, Garrett White Cheddar Popcorn, Cooper’s Cheese Straws, Cooper Street Granola Bakes, BobbySue’s Nuts Everything Goes Nuts, and Think Jerky Grass-Fed Beef Stick
- Afternoon Snack Basket: Homefree Vanilla Mini Cookies, Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt Chips, Over Easy Almond & Raisins Oat Bar, CauliPuffs White Cheddar Corn, Rice, and Cauliflower Puffed Snack, Wonderful Sea Salt & Pepper Pistachios, and Think Jerky Grass-Fed Beef Stick
In addition to the food changes, American will begin to serve Dallas-Fort Worth’s own award-winning Socorro Tequila on June 1st across all cabins. This will be complimentary in First and Business Class as well as for sale in other cabins.
Anthony’s Take: American is making lots of moves to position itself as more premium. This is another positive change as the airline continues its attempt to regain some of the standing it once had with customers.
