Alaska Airlines Pulls Out of Four Routes From United Airlines’ Hubs

Alaska Airlines gave its schedule a haircut in its latest update with flights from or between United’s hubs being removed from the route map. This includes one route to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) that received much fanfare when it was launched in December 2023.

The routes being cut include:

  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to/from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to/from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Nassau

Three of the four are also served by United Airlines between its hubs. The fourth, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) was announced in 2023 and began flying seasonally then. Alaska added a new country to the mix with the service to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) that began in December 2023 from both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). The Seattle route saw 3x weekly service on a Boeing 737 MAX. Los Angeles flyers got 4x weekly flights with a Boeing 737 covering the route. The Seattle flight has also not been reloaded for next winter yet. If it gets cut, then Alaska will be exiting The Bahamas completely once again.

Anthony’s Take: United will be happy to lose the competition on some of these routes. It’s interesting to see Alaska launch flights to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) and pull back just two years later (possibly entirely). Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) will continue to be used to keep Los Angeles and San Francisco connected nonstop with Washington DC.
