Avelo Airlines recently announced that it was exiting serving the West Coast and closing its base at Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) base on December 2nd. Breeze Airways first swept in and added five routes to/from Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) as well as two to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS). Now, Alaska is picking up on the opportunity left by Avelo’s vacancy by adding seven new routes of its own between several California cities and other points on the West Coast.

Alaska Route Adds

These three routes will see service end from Avelo Airlines and also picked up by Breeze Airways:

  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to/from Eugene Airport (EUG) (1x daily; starts on October 26th)
  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to/from Tri-Cities Airport (PSC) (1x daily; starts on October 26th)
  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to/from Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) (1x daily; starts on October 26th)

Other new Alaska Airlines routes include:

  • Boise Airport (BOI) to/from Ontario International Airport (ONT) (1x daily; starts on January 7th)
  • Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) to/from Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport (STS) (5x weekly; starts on October 26th)
  • San Diego International Airport (SAN) to/from Sun Valley’s Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) (3x weekly; starts on December 18th and runs seasonally)
  • Spokane International Airport (GEG) to/from Orange County’s John Wayne Airport (SNA) (1x daily; starts on January 7th)

All seven new routes will be flown using Embraer ERJ-175 aircraft with 12 First Class, 12 Premium, and 54 Economy Class seats. Aircraft are equipped with nboard entertainment and Wi-Fi. First Class seats also offer power outlets.

Kirsten Armine, Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning at Alaska Airlines, said:

We’re the only global airline based on the West Coast, and we’re proud to offer the most flights and seats between CaliforniaWashington and Oregon. These new additions further expand our ability to take our guests between growing markets in California and the Pacific Northwest for leisure and business travel.”

Anthony’s Take: Breeze Airways and now Alaska are filling the gaps left by Avelo Airlines on the West Coast with a better experience. It’s good to see these vacancies quickly filled.
